Than resolutions. According to GwenniePie, aka ME.
I don’t like resolutions. For me, they are made simply to be broken and for too long in my life I made a resolutions as weak wishes to better something in the new year for myself that I never followed through on.
A GOAL however, is more like a promise I make to myself. Something I want. Something I desire. And thus, I will work to achieve it. A goal, for me, is a committment. And I need to make myself a forever committment. We all should. MAKE YOURSELF A COMMITMENT.
In Weight Watchers last Saturday, we talked about our goals, and how breaking them down into bite size (har har har!) pieces can be motivating and more manageable. I have BIG goals. There are things that I want to achieve in the long term that will take lots of committed steps in the near term. And so I took a reverse engineering approach to my goals, establishing what the long term goals are and then working backwards to monthly goals. It worked for me, and I suggest that you give it a go! And without further ado, I present you with GwenniePie Goals for 2010 and Beyond!
Goals for 2011: Year of the Big 3-0:
- I will reach my revised goal weight of 175 pounds
- I will run my second Marine Corp Marathon
Goals for 2010:
- I will have an amazing wedding and marry the man of my dreams
- I will feel amazing and think I look my best for our wedding
- I will work out five days a week for at least 35 minutes each day
- I will stop drinking diet soda and stick with water
- I will keep a written journal to release my thoughts and energy – the good, bad and the ugly - beyond my blog
- I will take care of my body as I did pre-man (keep up the weekly facial masks and such)
Goals for/by October 2010:
- I will be back in “Onderland” for our wedding
Goals for March 2010:
- I will run the Shamrock 8k on March 14
- I will lose 4 pounds this month
Goals for February 2010:
- I will enjoy dress shopping
- I will lose 4 pounds this month
Goals for January 2010:
- I will lose 3 pounds this month
- I will increase my water intake to 4 liters a day
- I will take my Weight Watcher game and healthy habits on the road to Hawaii
In my bite size monthly goals I tried to make some concrete goals (like losing a certain number of pounds) that I can actually measure. These are aggressive, and I am putting out there that I won’t feel guilty or a failure if I do not hit those numbers exactly. But I want to work to do it! I know I can. And the simple (yet amazingly hard) effort of working towards those goals will help me maintain my healthy lifestyle.
You can also see that I have monthly goals for the next three months, and then not again until October. This way, I can revisit my goals and think about what I need to get me through and keep me motivated each month.
I feel really good about 2010. I am working hard to better myself, and not just to fit into a wedding dress and look dead sexy on 10.10.10!, cause let’s admit, I am already dead sexy even in my pajamas. But I want to LIVE a healthy life. FOREVER. I don’t want to battle these same problems in 10 years. I want to be living a healthy life because it’s just what I do.
Did you make any new goals for 2010? Do you like resolutions?

I never make New Year’s resolutions because I feel like I do that every day. Some I keep and some I forget. Either way – I agree that “goals” sounds better – but semantics…
Yay for 10.10.10! Same here!
Wow you drink 4 liters of water a DAY? How did you come up with this # and how has it helped?
I’m lucky if I get a half liter. SAD!
PS: I love how you broke down your resolutions. I did the same on my non-wedding blog. I call them “New Months Resolutions”.

I figure if you say “I will lose 5 lbs in January” its better than saying “I need to lose 50 lbs by the wedding.” And its easier not to just completely give up on yourself till next year… just next month.
I like how you think!
