Why We Love Spruce Camp

I promised to finish the story of why we picked Spruce Camp.

I think in our relationship, H and I have very much gone with what feels right and just knowing.  After our first date, we both just knew we wanted to not only learn more, but that more could mean forever.  When we walked into the restaurant in PA for dinner, H just knew it was the place we would get engaged.  And when we walked up to Spruce Camp, we just knew it was the place we would celebrate our love with family and friends.

I clutched my chest.  I may have gasped.  I just knew.

And luckily, H knew too.  Or he wasn’t that hard of a sell on it!

Stowe, in case you didn’t already know, is a top tourist destination in Vermont.  It is located on the other side of the mountain from where I grew up, and is a big little ski town.  The downtown area is very sweet with lots of little shops and restaurants and it is a beautiful, short drive to some of my favorite VT attractions, the Ben and Jerry’s Factory, Cold Hollow Cider Mill and the Cabot Cheese Annex, all places I will be directing our guests during their visit should they decide to leave the mountain (as I so hope they will!).  We love love the idea of having our guests all staying on property – we will have a shuttle to transport people the short distance between the Inn at the Mountain (which we are COMPLETELY RESERVING!) and Spruce Camp, about a mile further up the mountain.  It is going to be one long weekend of love and celebration and we couldn’t honestly be anymore excited.  Even as I write this now, I have a hard time believing it’s coming true.  You know, that dream I and every other little girl has about happily ever after?  It’s so much better in real life!

Stowe is quaint, picturesque and warm.  I didn’t go into planning thinking I would have a “Stowe” wedding.  Since there is such a tourism boom there, it is a bit more “posh” if you will than Worcester.  There is more money, and we aren’t the fancy showy money kind of people.  And it is costing more money than what we had originally planned.  Of course.  But it just feels right for us.

I mentioned that I was second guessing our decision – I think that this is just the first of many occasions in which I will wonder if I made the right choice.  But when I heard H telling his folks about our decision and saying how much he loves it, I know we are making the right decision.  We will get married at the foot of a ski slope, two non-skiers, deeply in love and surrounded by those that love us most and the immense beauty of Vermont.

The following three images were sent to me by our SUPER FANTASTIC planner at Spruce Camp and the Inn at the Mountain, Calais.  I read in Vermont Bride magazine that she was a “bridal fairy Godmother” and so far she has been a delight.  HUGE selling point for us was that her assistance was included.  HEART!
